Project Aware Specialist
Often treated as an easy classroom specialty focussing on the "10 tips for Divers to protect the Ocean planet", this course can be a lot more than that. There is a wealth of knowledge in the Project Aware's book "Our World Our Water". It is in a way a mini oceanography course covering not just oceans, but also the freshwater bodies. Aquatic World will be a better word, which is also what the first two letters from AWARE stand for. I intend to teach this course in greater detail and hence instead of finishing this in two to three hours, I am conducting it in 3 sessions of 2 hours each. Divers can take the advantage of this certification as it counts towards their Master Scuba Diver rating. Non-divers can take this course for knowledge and get a Certificate of Recognition. We will go through the Hydrological cycle, freshwater ecoystems, coastal and oceanic zones, hydrothermal vents, productivity, surface and thermohaline currents, importance of coastal ecosystems and wetlands, coral reefs, temprate and polar waters, Intertidal zones, pollution and its sources, destructive fishery practices, pressures due to population and finally what we can do to protect this aquatic environment.
